Depending on the individual situation, major complications may lead to the need for a cesarean, forceps, or vacuum delivery, a longer hospital stay, blood transfusion, or in rare cases, permanent disability or even loss of life for mother or child.

Please remember that most of these complications are rare. Most vaginal births have few or no complications, and both the mother and baby are healthy afterward. However, complications ARE possible, no matter how rare, and you should discuss any questions you have with your doctor.
