Closed Caption - VBAC and Why Is It Recommended?

Your doctor feels you are a good candidate to have a vaginal birth to deliver your child. Since you have already had a cesarean section, this is called a VBAC, which stands for Vaginal Birth After C-section.

What makes you a good candidate for a VBAC is that you have a horizontal, or side-to-side, scar on the lower part of your uterus from your previous C-section, as opposed to a vertical or other type of scar. Remember that the scar on your uterus may be different from the one on your stomach. Only the doctor's report from your C-section will say for sure what kind of scar you have on your uterus.

We will discuss the benefits of having a VBAC, its differences from a regular vaginal delivery and a c-section, and the risks involved.
