Perhaps the best part of this whole process is the moment you can bring your baby home.
When you leave the hospital, your healthcare team will give you specific instructions for how best to care for yourself and your baby. These instructions will cover driving, activity level, medicine, taking care of any incisions or tears you might have, and symptoms to watch for that may require immediate medical attention.
You may not have your period for 8 weeks or more after childbirth, and if you are breast-feeding, it might be several months until it starts again. But it is important to remember that it is possible to get pregnant again, even before your period returns. You should discuss contraception with your doctor before you leave the hospital.
