Stuart Prenatal and Breastfeeding

Taking Stuart Prenatal and breastfeeding is a safe and beneficial combination. Because breast milk is an important source of vitamins and minerals for breastfed infants, it is helpful for mothers to take Stuart Prenatal while breastfeeding. Also, prenatal vitamins (including Stuart Prenatal) can help a woman's body recover during the months after pregnancy and childbirth.

An Overview of Stuart Prenatal and Breastfeeding

Stuart Prenatal® and Stuart Prenatal + DHA® are non-prescription prenatal vitamins. Not only are prenatal vitamins safe for use during breastfeeding, they are actually very beneficial. Although women sometimes think they are finished with prenatal vitamins once they give birth, it is often recommended that women keep taking their prenatal vitamins as long as they are breastfeeding.

Stuart Prenatal and Breastfeeding: What Does the Research Say?

Research has suggested that many vitamins and minerals pass through breast milk. However, this is usually a very good thing. For an infant that is exclusively breastfed, breast milk is the only source of vitamins and minerals. Also, prenatal vitamins can help a woman's body recover during the months after pregnancy and childbirth. Keep in mind that it is not a good idea to take too much of any particular vitamin and mineral, so you should not take any additional vitamins and minerals (unless you have your healthcare provider's approval).

There is one exception to this suggestion -- prenatal vitamins (including Stuart Prenatal) usually do not contain enough calcium for most women. Calcium is a bulky mineral, and it is difficult (usually impossible) to fit enough calcium into a single tablet along with all the other ingredients in prenatal vitamins. Because calcium is very important during pregnancy and breastfeeding, you may need to take additional calcium, particularly if you do not get much calcium from your diet.
