PreNexa Warnings and Precautions

Before you start taking PreNexa, warnings and precautions for the prenatal vitamin should be reviewed. The supplement contains folic acid, which can mask certain types of anemia; this means that if you take enough folic acid, certain types of anemia may not show up on blood tests. Be sure to let your healthcare provider know if you have anemia before using PreNexa.

PreNexa: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking PreNexa® if you have:

  • A bleeding disorder
  • Anemia
  • Any allergies, including allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives.

Also, make sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Specific Precautions and Warnings for PreNexa

Some warnings and precautions to be aware of prior to taking PreNexa include the following:

  • PreNexa contains folic acid, which can mask certain types of anemia. This means that if you take enough folic acid, certain types of anemia may not show up on blood tests. However, this does not apply to all types of anemia. If you have anemia, check with your healthcare provider before taking PreNexa. This is not a problem with iron-deficiency anemia (a common type of anemia in pregnant women).

  • High doses of omega-3 fatty acids (like DHA) can increase the risk of bleeding, although this is not expected to be a problem at the recommended PreNexa dosage. However, if you have a bleeding disorder, please discuss this with your healthcare provider before taking PreNexa.

  • PreNexa can potentially interact with a few other medications (see PreNexa Drug Interactions).

  • PreNexa is usually considered safe for breastfeeding women (see PreNexa and Breastfeeding).
