PreNexa and Breastfeeding

Many of the vitamins and minerals in PreNexa are passed through breast milk. This is a good thing because breast milk is the primary nutrition source for exclusively breastfed infants. If you are breastfeeding and taking PreNexa, talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to take any additional vitamins or minerals.

Can I Take PreNexa Safely While Breastfeeding?

Like other prenatal vitamins, PreNexa® is considered to be safe (and beneficial) for breastfeeding women and their infants. In fact, it is usually recommended that breastfeeding women take a prenatal vitamin, since breastfeeding is a time of increased nutritional need.

Breastfeeding and PreNexa: What Does the Research Say?

Studies have shown that many of the vitamins and minerals in PreNexa pass through breast milk. However, this is usually a very good thing.

For an infant who is exclusively breastfed, breast milk is the only dietary source of important vitamins and minerals. Keep in mind that it is not a good idea to take too much of any particular vitamin and mineral, so you should not take any additional vitamins and minerals (unless you have your healthcare provider's approval).

There is one exception to this suggestion -- prenatal vitamins (including PreNexa) usually do not contain enough calcium for most women. Be sure to ask your healthcare provider about calcium supplementation you may need.

Talking With Your Healthcare Provider About Breastfeeding and PreNexa

You should talk with your healthcare provider about nursing while taking PreNexa. Each woman's situation is different, and you and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, you and your healthcare provider can make a shared decision that is right for you.

In general, PreNexa is considered to be safe (and actually beneficial) for nursing women and their infants.
