Generic PreNexa

There are currently no generic versions of PreNexa licensed for sale. This is common with prenatal vitamins, as they do not have equivalence ratings (meaning no generic vitamin is equivalent to any brand-name vitamin). However, depending on state laws, your pharmacist may substitute a generic prenatal vitamin that is similar to brand-name PreNexa.

Is a Generic Version of PreNexa Available?

PreNexa® is a prescription-only prenatal vitamin. In addition to the standard prenatal vitamins and minerals, PreNexa also contains DHA (an omega-3 fatty acid important for brain and eye development) and docusate sodium, a stool softener (used to prevent and treat constipation).

PreNexa prenatal vitamins are manufactured by Upsher-Smith Laboratories. There are no generic versions of PreNexa available.

What If I Can't Afford PreNexa?

Prenatal vitamins (especially brand-name ones) can be quite expensive. If you cannot afford PreNexa, please ask your healthcare provider to recommend a less expensive alternative. It is important to take a prenatal vitamin, so do not be embarrassed to ask for a less expensive prenatal vitamin.

What If My Pharmacy Doesn't Carry PreNexa?

There are many, many different prenatal vitamins currently on the market, and a pharmacy cannot possibly stock every single brand; your pharmacy may not carry PreNexa prenatal vitamins.
If this is the case, you have a few different options.

You can take your prescription (or have it transferred) to a different pharmacy that carries PreNexa. You can also have your healthcare provider give you a prescription for a different prenatal vitamin. Or, you can ask your pharmacy to stock PreNexa for you.
