PremesisRx Uses

How Does PremesisRx Work?

PremesisRx prenatal vitamins contain a few different vitamins and minerals that are important for a healthy pregnancy. Probably most importantly, PremesisRx contains folic acid (1 mg per day), which helps to prevent certain birth defects, such as spina bifida. PremesisRx also contains calcium, vitamin B12, and a high dose of vitamin B6, which may help relieve morning sickness.

PremesisRx does not contain iron and some of the other vitamins and minerals typically found in prenatal vitamins, but this is done on purpose. PremesisRx contains just the absolute essentials, because iron and other ingredients may contribute to morning sickness. As your pregnancy progresses, your morning sickness may improve (or even go away altogether). If you think you are finished with morning sickness, talk with your healthcare provider about switching to a different prenatal vitamin (one that contains more vitamins and minerals). Also, PremesisRx can be taken in addition to a regular prenatal vitamin.

PremesisRx Use in Children, Men, or the Elderly

PremesisRx is not recommended for use in children, men, or the elderly. Sometimes, prenatal vitamins are prescribed in place of regular vitamins in order to get them covered by insurance or Medicaid (although many insurance companies and Medicaid programs have caught on to this practice and now restrict coverage of prenatal vitamins only to pregnant women). Many prenatal vitamins contain iron in doses that are too high for children or elderly people.

Off-Label PremesisRx Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend PremesisRx for something other than the conditions discussed in this article. People often wonder if taking prenatal vitamins may be helpful for hair growth. Although pregnant women often experience fuller, thicker hair that grows faster, this is due to hormones, not to their prenatal vitamins. There is no evidence that prenatal vitamins help with hair growth (or that they would be any better than a regular multivitamin for this use).
