Generic PremesisRx

There is no generic PremesisRx available at this time. This is because no generic prenatal vitamin has been assigned an "equivalence rating" by the FDA, meaning there are no generic prenatal vitamins that are equivalent to the brand-name product. However, your pharmacist may substitute a generic prenatal vitamin that has the exact same ingredients in the same amounts as PremesisRx (if state laws allow it and your healthcare provider approves).

 

Generic PremesisRx: An Overview

PremesisRx® is a prenatal vitamin. These particular prenatal vitamins are only available with a prescription and are specifically designed to help alleviate morning sickness (known medically as nausea and vomiting of pregnancy).
 
PremesisRx is manufactured by Ther-Rx Corporation. There is no generic PremesisRx available.
 

The Trouble With Generic Prenatal Vitamins

The issue of
 generic prenatal vitamins presents an interesting technical problem. Because prenatal vitamins do not need to be approved by the FDA, they are not given "equivalence ratings" by the FDA. Equivalence ratings are used by pharmacists to determine which generic products are considered equivalent to brand-name products. In many states, a pharmacist may not dispense a generic in place of a brand-name medication unless the FDA has rated the products to be equivalent. Because prenatal vitamins do not have equivalence ratings, technically, no generic prenatal vitamin is equivalent to any brand-name prenatal vitamin (including PremesisRx prenatal vitamins).
 
However, depending on state laws (and how your healthcare provider writes your prescription), your pharmacist may substitute a generic prenatal vitamin that has the exact same ingredients (in the same amounts) as the brand-name product.
