Having Sex While Pregnant

One of the most common questions that comes up during pregnancy is whether you and your partner can continue to have sex. For example, you may have questions like:

  • Is it safe to have sex during pregnancy?
  • What positions will work?
  • What types of sex can I have while pregnant?

In most cases, as long as you are having a healthy pregnancy without complications, it is safe to have sex. However, be sure to check with your healthcare provider first.

You will notice that, as your body changes, it may be more difficult to have sex the way you are used to. Now is the time to experiment with new positions that will accommodate your growing belly. A good rule of thumb is to try positions that keep your partner's weight off your abdomen (stomach). This will make sex much more comfortable for you.
