Your Baby's Development at Week 6 of Pregnancy

Your baby is growing rapidly during week 6 of pregnancy. Changes that occur when you are 6 weeks pregnant typically include the following:
 
  • The neural tube along your baby's back closes
  • The head and tail become easily recognizable
  • The optic vesicles and lenses of the eyes form
  • Limb buds (arms and legs) are present
  • Basic facial features begin to appear (eyes, ears, nose, and opening for mouth)
  • The earliest form of the liver, pancreas, lungs, and thyroid gland appear
  • The heart bulges from the body and beats with a regular rhythm
  • The cerebral brain hemispheres are enlarging
  • The primary intestinal loop is present
  • The digestive and respiratory systems begin to form
  • The larynx starts to form, as does the inner ear.
