31 Weeks Pregnant
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) believes that breast milk is the best form of infant nutrition. Breast milk provides many antibodies for your newborn baby, helping it fight infections. Approximately 50 percent of children are breastfed, which means that 50 percent of children are bottle-fed with formula. The method you choose for feeding your child is a personal decision. Talk to your healthcare provider about breastfeeding versus bottle feeding.
During the third trimester, the milk glands in your breasts may start to make colostrum. Colostrum is the thick, yellowish milk that will provide your baby with calories and nutrients for the first few days after he or she is born. If you notice that your breasts are leaking colostrum, you can use disposable or washable breast pads to protect your clothing.
