17 Weeks Pregnant
Once you are 17 weeks pregnant, the rapid growth of the baby begins to slow down. Around this time, your baby's hearing is developing and the circulatory and urinary systems are functioning. When you are 17 weeks pregnant, there should be an obvious swelling in your lower abdomen. You may also notice a 5- to 10-pound weight gain and an increase in appetite.
You are 17 weeks pregnant -- you're into your fifth month!
Sometime between week 17 and week 20 of pregnancy, your baby's hearing develops. This means that he or she can hear sounds, both inside and outside of your body. Don't feel silly about singing lullabies and playing music.
Also, toward the end of week 17 of pregnancy, your baby's heart is pumping 25 quarts of blood per day (that is equal to 6¼ gallons!).
You may notice that you are feeling more energetic and better all around. This is likely due to the fact that the placenta is now producing the hormones necessary to continue the pregnancy. The hormones produced by the placenta have fewer side effects than the hormones that you produce.
Your baby is now 4.4 to 4.8 inches long and weighs about 3.5 ounces.
