PreferaOB and Breastfeeding
All three of the PreferaOB products are safe for use while breastfeeding. PreferaOB can help boost the vitamins and minerals that a nursing mother may be lacking. Because babies who are exclusively breastfed receive vitamins and minerals only from their mother's breast milk, these products can help ensure the baby is receiving adequate amounts of important nutrients.
PreferaOB® is a line of prescription vitamins made for women to take before, during, and after pregnancy. The different PreferaOB products include PreferaOB+DHA™, PreferaOB, and PreferaOB ONE™. All three are appropriate for breastfeeding women.
Breast milk is the only source of vitamins and minerals for infants who are exclusively breastfed. The vitamin and mineral content of breast milk is largely determined by a women's diet. However, it can be difficult for breastfeeding women to get the adequate nutrients to support both her and her baby's health. Therefore, it is often recommended that women who are nursing continue to take their prenatal vitamins.
It is not a good idea to take too much of any particular vitamin or mineral, however. So make sure you have your healthcare provider's approval before taking additional supplements, vitamins, or minerals.
One exception is calcium, which is not an ingredient in any of the PreferaOB products. Therefore, you may need to take an additional calcium supplement. Your healthcare provider can help you determine if you are getting enough calcium from your diet, or if you need a supplement.
You should discuss breastfeeding and PreferaOB use with your healthcare provider. In general, prenatal vitamins are recommended for use in women who are breastfeeding. Each woman's situation is different, however, and you and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, your healthcare provider can help you choose the best prenatal vitamin for your particular situation.
