An Overview of Sex Positions for Getting Pregnant
Making the decision to start a family is a very important one, and you are finally here! So now you want to plan it out and decide when to have sex, so you know what month your baby will be born in -- is this sounding about right? Be patient; it doesn't always happen that way.
Besides timing, many couples also want to know the best positions to have sex to increase their chances of becoming pregnant. This is just one of the pieces to the puzzle.
First of all, it is best to try sex positions that are comfortable for you both as a couple. You and your partner can have fun together finding some positions that are satisfying and that also work towards the common goal -- a baby!
As you get started, here are some things to keep in mind:
- Try positions in which the semen is not likely to drip out immediately following sex. You want the sperm to have the chance to go find the egg.
- Try positions that may increase penetration -- the closer the sperm are, the less they have to swim.
- Now is not the best time for the woman to be on top -- the sperm really don't get much of a chance, working against gravity.
- After sex, it may be helpful to raise your hips up on a pillow, and to stay lying down for 15 to 20 minutes. This will allow the semen to move towards the cervix (which is the opening of the uterus). But make sure you do not prop your hips too high -- you do not want the semen to pool behind your cervix.
