Neevo Uses

Neevo helps provide extra nutrition to pregnant women. The prenatal vitamin is specifically designed for older women, those in the intermediate- to high-risk pregnancy categories, and women with MTHFR polymorphisms. Although there are no approved uses for Neevo in children, men, or the elderly, the supplement may sometimes be prescribed in place of regular vitamins in order to get them covered by insurance.

What Is Neevo Used For?

Neevo^® is a prescription prenatal vitamin designed for high-risk pregnancy. Specifically, Neevo is designed for pregnant women in the following categories:

Older women
Women in the intermediate- to high-risk pregnancy categories (as determined by your healthcare provider)
Women with a genetic inability to adequately metabolize folic acid (the MTHFR polymorphism).

Women may have intermediate- to high-risk pregnancies for a variety of reasons, including past miscarriages or other pregnancy problems.

Another common cause of pregnancy problems is the MTHFR polymorphism. Women with genetic variations of the gene for the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) enzyme may produce MTHFR enzymes that do not adequately metabolize folic acid into the active form that is usable by the body.

Since folic acid is essential for a healthy pregnancy, women with MTHFR polymorphisms (gene variations) may be at a higher risk for miscarriage or other pregnancy problems, even if they take folic acid. To avoid this problem, Neevo contains the active form of folic acid that does not need to be metabolized by the body.

Neevo is also useful for women trying to conceive or for use after childbirth (for both breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding women). Because it is important to get enough folic acid prior to pregnancy and during early pregnancy (including the early weeks before you even know you are pregnant), your healthcare provider may recommend that you take a prenatal vitamin while trying to get pregnant.

In fact, since so many pregnancies are unplanned, it is a good idea for any sexually active woman of reproductive age to take a prenatal vitamin (or at least a multivitamin with a minimum of 400 mcg of folic acid).
