Changes in Your Body When 17 Weeks Pregnant

When 17 weeks pregnant, you may begin to feel your baby move, since he or she is developing muscles and exercising them. This first movement is called quickening. Other common changes that you may notice by week 17 of pregnancy include:
  • Obvious swelling in your lower abdomen
  • A 5- to 10-pound increase in weight gain
  • An increase in appetite.
At this point in your pregnancy, your uterus is about 1½ to 2 inches below your belly button.

17 Weeks Pregnant: Helpful Tips for Mom

As your body grows, so will your breasts. You may want to invest in a maternity bra now, to give your breasts the extra support they may need at this point. Some women also find sleeping in a bra gives added comfort and support.
Also, change positions slowly -- especially when you move from a lying down position to sitting or from a sitting position to standing -- to avoid feeling dizzy or faint. If you feel lightheaded, sit down and lower your head or lie down for a moment.

17 Weeks Pregnant: Helpful Tips for Spouses

Although your partner may be feeling the baby moving within her, you may not be able to just yet. Don't worry -- one of these days, you'll put your hand on your partner's abdomen and will be able to feel your baby move!
