Now that you have seen the normal anatomy of a pregnancy, let's talk about why your doctor is recommending a cesarean delivery.
Your doctor thinks that you will probably not be able to have a normal vaginal delivery, because your baby is too large to fit through your pelvis. This can happen with women who:
· Have diabetes,
· Have a larger than average body OR are obese,
· Have already given birth to at least 2 children, or
· Have given birth to a large baby before
But it is also more common today as a result of better nutrition. Your doctor can discuss your baby's position and size with you, and make a recommendation for c-section at any time before or during labor.
