An Introduction to Gesticare Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Gesticare^™ prenatal vitamins. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Possible Side Effects of Gesticare

Many of the possible side effects with Gesticare are also some of the common aches, pains, and annoyances that are common during pregnancy.

Therefore, it can be difficult to tell if a particular side effect is caused by the supplement or by the pregnancy itself. However, if a side effect suddenly appears (or gets worse) when you start taking Gesticare, it may be reasonable to assume that the vitamin may be causing the problem.

Prenatal vitamins (even prescription-only prenatal vitamins) do not need the approval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and they are usually not studied as thoroughly as other types of medications. Therefore, detailed information about the possible side effects of prenatal vitamins is not available. However, based on side effects of the individual components of Gesticare, the following side effects are possible:

Insomnia
Fatigue
Headaches
Yellow or orange urine discoloration
Diarrhea or constipation
Nausea and vomiting
Gas or belching
Heartburn or indigestion
Intestinal cramps
Muscle aches and pains
Metallic taste in the mouth
Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
Loss of appetite.

If you find that the side effects of Gesticare are intolerable for you, please ask your healthcare provider for assistance (rather than just stop taking the prenatal vitamin). It is important to get enough folic acid (and certain other vitamins and minerals) during pregnancy, and your healthcare provider may have some useful suggestions or may recommend a different prenatal vitamin.
