Generic Gesticare

At this time, there are no generic Gesticare products licensed for sale. Most pharmacists may not dispense a generic in place of a brand-name medication unless the FDA has rated the products to be equivalent. Because prenatal vitamins are not FDA-approved and do not have equivalence ratings, technically, no generic prenatal vitamin is equivalent to any brand-name prenatal vitamin (including Gesticare).

Is a Generic Version of Gesticare Available?

Gesticare^™ is a prescription-only prenatal vitamin. It is unique in that it is specially designed with delayed-release calcium to improve the absorption of both calcium and iron (since these two minerals tend to interact with each other, decreasing each other's absorption).

Gesticare prenatal vitamins are manufactured by Azur Pharma, Inc. There are no generic versions of Gesticare available.

What If My Pharmacy Doesn't Carry Gesticare?

There are many, many different prenatal vitamins currently on the market; a pharmacy cannot possibly stock every single brand, and your pharmacy may not carry Gesticare prenatal vitamins. If this is the case, you have a few options.

You can take your prescription (or have it transferred) to a different pharmacy that carries Gesticare. You can also have your healthcare provider give you a prescription for a different prenatal vitamin. Or, you can ask your pharmacy to stock Gesticare for you.

What If I Can't Afford Gesticare?

Prenatal vitamins (especially brand-name ones) can be quite expensive.

If you cannot afford Gesticare, please ask your healthcare provider to recommend a less expensive alternative. It is important to take a prenatal vitamin, so do not be embarrassed to ask for a less expensive prenatal vitamin.
