Often, early symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy are similar to those normally seen in early pregnancy, and may include pain, cramping, and vaginal bleeding. If an ectopic pregnancy has ruptured, serious symptoms can occur, including pain in the pelvis, abdomen, or even the shoulder or neck. The pain may vary from intense and shooting to throbbing and long-lasting. An ectopic pregnancy can result in serious or even life-threatening complications. If you are pregnant and have pain or any of these other symptoms, you should call your healthcare provider immediately -- you may be experiencing ectopic pregnancy symptoms.
