Specific Precautions and Warnings for Citranatal
Some warnings and precautions to be aware of prior to taking these supplements include the following:
- High doses of omega-3 fatty acids (such as docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA) can increase the risk of bleeding, although this is not expected to be a problem at the recommended Citranatal dosage. However, if you have a bleeding disorder, please discuss this with your healthcare provider before taking Citranatal. Citranatal DHA, Citranatal 90 DHA, and Citranatal Assure all contain DHA, while Citranatal Rx does not.
- Some forms of DHA are derived from fish oils, and may contain heavy metals (like mercury) or cause problems for people with fish allergies. However, the DHA in this prenatal vitamin does not come from fish and will not cause such problems.
- Citranatal products contain folic acid, which can mask certain types of anemia. This means that if you take enough folic acid, certain types of anemia may not show up on blood tests. However, this does not apply to all types of anemia.
If you have anemia, check with your healthcare provider before taking Citranatal. This is not a concern with iron-deficiency anemia (a common type of anemia in pregnant women).
