As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Citracal
® Prenatal +
DHA prenatal vitamins. However, not everyone who takes the vitamins will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate them quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Possible Side Effects of Citracal Prenatal + DHA
Because prenatal vitamins do not need FDA approval, they are typically not studied as thoroughly as other types of medications.
Therefore, detailed information about the possible side effects of prenatal vitamins is not available. However, based on the side effects of the individual components of Citracal Prenatal + DHA, the following side effects are possible:
- Fatigue
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Heartburn or indigestion
- Muscle aches and pains
- Metallic taste in the mouth
- Insomnia
- Yellow-orange discoloration of the urine
- Nausea and vomiting
- Gas or belching
- Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
- Headaches
- Intestinal cramps
- Flushing
- Loss of appetite.
As you can see, many of the possible Citracal Prenatal + DHA side effects are also some of the common aches, pains, and annoyances that are common during pregnancy. Therefore, it can be difficult to tell if a particular side effect is caused by Citracal Prenatal + DHA or by the pregnancy itself.
Citracal Prenatal 90 + DHA prenatal vitamins (which contain more iron) are probably more likely to cause stomach upset and constipation, compared to regular Citracal Prenatal + DHA prenatal vitamins.
