Now that you have seen the normal anatomy of a pregnancy, let's talk about why your doctor is recommending a cesarean delivery.
You are pregnant with more than one baby. While some women are able to deliver twins or even triplets through the vagina, the risk of complications increases with multiple pregnancies. For example, you are more likely to have problems because of:
· An abnormal presentation of one or more of the babies,
· slow growth of one or both twins,
· preterm labor or
· high blood pressure that is induced by the pregnancy
Because of these risks, cesarean delivery may be recommended for women who are pregnant with more than one baby. This is particularly true when both babies are in a buttock's first position. Cesarean delivery may also be needed if one of your babies is having problems.
