Does Cervidil Work?

Clinical studies have been done on the effectiveness of Cervidil® (dinoprostone vaginal insert), answering the all-important question: does Cervidil work?

One clinical study showed that 65 percent of women were more likely to go into labor or deliver a baby vaginally within 12 hours of receiving the Cervidil vaginal insert, compared with 28 percent of women who received a placebo (a similar product that did not contain any active ingredients). Also, women who received Cervidil went into labor about 19.5 hours sooner than women who received a placebo.

Although this medicine may be effective for many women, it is not safe for everyone. Make sure your healthcare provider knows if you have a history of asthma, a prior C-section, or certain other medical issues before receiving Cervidil.
